About this work
A wolf-dog crouches inside a roughly built wooden cage, head thrust between the bars, snarling with jaws wide open and teeth fully bared. A heavy chain loops from its collar down through the slats, anchoring it to the floor. Crossed, angled bars fill nearly the whole frame, boxing the animal into a cramped, cell-like space.
The image is rendered almost entirely in burnt orange against deep black, with the bars painted in the same rust tone as the animal's fur, so captor and captive share one palette. Rough, energetic strokes model the fur and the glinting eye, while stark contrast and cropped framing build a tense, menacing atmosphere of confinement and threatened violence.
